English: N601US, an early Boeing 747-100 (line no:27), was delivered to Northwest Orient Airlines in Apr-70 and was the first B747 to operate services across the Pacific. Northwest Orient was renamed Northwest Airlines in Oct-86. N601US continued in service until it was retired at Maxton, NC, USA, in Jan-01 after 31 years service. It was broken up at Maxton in late 2006 and the forward fuselage, including the flight deck, was donated to the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC, USA. It was reassembled and officially put on display in Nov-07.
