据2021年9月的报导，强·华兹将自编自导一部未定名的惊悚片，乔治·克隆尼和布莱德·彼特领衔主演兼制片[4]。Apple TV+在赢得制片商竞购战后获得了该片的版权[5]。2023年1月在纽约市开始制作，艾美·莱恩签约参演[6]。拉金·塞普勒（英语：Larkin Seiple）被聘来担任摄影指导，此时的片名为《狼性修理工》（Wolves）[7][8]。2月，奥斯汀·艾布拉姆斯和普尔娜·雅格娜森加入演出阵容[9][10]。
