八哥属（属名：Acridotheres）是椋鸟科的一个属，广泛分布于亚洲热带地区，部分作为观赏鸟引入世界各地，家八哥为其模式种[1]。其学名来自古希腊语“akridos”（蝗虫）、“-thēras”（捕食）[2]。
中文的“八哥”是对八哥叫声的描述。“八”为其叫声的拟声词，而“哥”实为“歌”，通“歌”，本意为会叭叭叫的鸟[3]。
